Rolling On The Sea
Vacations can sometimes be hard to plan when you have to try and find accessible houses or hotels. Not everyone likes the water or boats but for those who do, cruises are a great option. I have gone on two now and they make it very easy to do activities and get around without worrying about accessibility. The first cruise I went on was in 2009 on a royal Caribbean ship. I went out of Bayonne New Jersey and went to Bermuda. I booked an accessible room, which included an accessible bathroom. The whole ship was accessible which was nice because I could do everything that my family was doing. The best part was that the pool and hot tub had a lift that I transferred onto that put me right into the water. My advice for finding a good cruise is to do research on the accessibility of the ships; some of the older ones are not wheelchair friendly. Also make sure where you are going is accessible. Some locations do not dock at a port, which would prevent you from getting off the ship. You should also find out what type of transportation they have at your location to make sure you can get around if needed. A big thing to remember is that you will be out in the ocean on a ship that won’t turn around. You have to make sure you have everything you need. For example any medicines, medical supplies, and equipment you will need.
I loved both of the cruises I went on because once I was on the ship I didn’t have to worry about accessibility.
