SCI Video Blog at a French Swimming Championship
I was watching people at the beginning of each session, the way they transferred from their chair to the ground next to the swimming pool to finally jump in the water
SCI Video Blog's Justine Noel visited the French Disable Swimming Championship Open in Nancy, France. Here's her experience in her own words.
"I would like to share with you guys my two days at the French Disable Swimming Championship Open. It tok place in my town (Nancy, France) and it was such an amazing experience to go and watch it. It started in the morning with an opening ceremony followed by the training session. The championship was divided in three categories: men, women and youth. They were athletes with different kind of disability not only SCI individuals. I was watching people at the beginning of each session, the way they transferred from their chair to the ground next to the swimming pool to finally jump in the water. I was sincerely impressed by the athletes. They gave in everything for few minutes and everyone were clapping their hands and encouraging them. Unfortunately, I was not able to interview athletes because the process is different in France and I didn’t have press authorization. I’ll definitely be visiting other championships to share it with you guys."
The Committee regional Handisport of Lorraine, under the aegis of the Federation Française Handisport (Disable French Federation), welcomed participants in Nancy, France for the French Disable Swimming Championship Open, on June 19th, 20th and 21st. The organization committee members ensured that these three days were the occasion of sportive masterstrokes in complete conviviality.

The primary French Disabled Sports Federation goal is to make accessible to the greatest number of sport for people with disabilities.
Competition
Under the top-level, France is ranked 9th out of the 120 countries present at the Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004 and 4th in the 33 countries attending the Winter Games in Turin in 2006.
Hobbies
Through its many clubs, the Federation offers a wide range of disciplines recreation accessible to all forms of motor disabilities, visual and auditory. Many activities of discovery and initiation are regularly organized.
Youth
Involvement in the development of physical activities for young people and severely disabled. (Games of the Future, Grand Prix National des Jeunes).
Education
To make the sport accessible to all, the Federation provides training have to intervene in associations and specialized vocational institutions. It also organizes training for the benefit of educators who wish to accommodate people with disabilities in their practice and volunteers who wish to invest in disabled sports movement.
